A Shortage of Long-Term Care in Ontario.
By 2031, it is estimated that approximately one in four Canadians will be 65 years or older.
Hamilton has been identified as one of the top 15 metropolitan areas in Canada with 17.9% of the population 65 years or older.
Shalom Manor & Gardens is experiencing waitlists from 5 to 8 years. Almost one-third of those on the waitlist are from the Hamilton/Burlington area.
Currently, almost 40% of Shalom residents are from Hamilton.
Addressing the Shortage with a New Campus of Care
Shalom Manor and Wellingstone Christian Home have joined to build a new Christian elder care residence in Hamilton.
The campus of care will serve our aging Reformed Christian Dutch-Canadian communities of Hamilton, Burlington and surrounding areas, through the following pillars:
- Christian values, servant leadership and spiritual care.
- Personal care and service promoting quality and innovation.
- Community spirit and fellowship through an intergenerational campus.
- An aging in community philosophy.
Providing a Continuum of Care
Shalom Manor Hamilton will be a six-storey caring village, providing fellowship through residential and service options for over 256 seniors. The full range of amenities will serve our growing community of elders and will complement the current independent living apartments at Wellingstone Christian Home.
